Prednisone

Rhylee has had congestion in his chest for a week or so, he is on Amoxicillin and he uses Albuterol with his nebulizer, so anyway it seemed like it was not clearing up so I took him back to the doctor and they said it was his Asthma acting up so they put him on the steroid prednisone and OMG I will NEVER EVER EVER put my child on this again. Now it can work great for children with asthma, skin conditions etc. However it did not work well with my son.

He got his first dose on Friday, 2 tsp daily. Later that day he had his worst fit I have ever seen, Sat. comes and we take the boys to the movie store to pick out a movie, we put him in his umbrella stroller so he doesnt try to run off, well he did not want to be in the stroller and started screaming and kicking and acting like a fool, he has thrown fits before but this was extreme, he then proceeds to place his feet under the stroller strap so we cant push the stroller even though just putting his feet there its hurting him so Mike lifts the stroller so its only on the back two wheels so he doesnt keep hurting his feet, all the while he is still kicking and screaming , leaning over in the stroller, by this point all attention is on me and I was beyond embarrassed so I think okay Im going to get him out of the stroller maybe he will calm down, so I get him out and he throws himself on the floor and is kicking and screaming, and I mean screaming like some insane person, so I walk around the corner figuring when he does not see me he will stop, wrong that makes him go into a rage even more, so I pick him put and let me tell you he is tall and solid. He is kicking and hitting me, his shoes are flying off and Im trying to grab him, grab his shoes , pull the stroller, all the while trying NOT to cry from ppl staring at me.. SERIOUSLY It pissed me off actually, I was leaving the store but my son was not making this easy and there was nothing I could do to make him quiet. *** Also From the time we walked in the door and he started, I was trying to work my way back outside..so you know. So we FINALLY get to the door and he grabs onto the door frame and would not let go, and he had this incredible strength , finally make it to the car , the same thing, I can NOT get him in his car seat he is kicking and screaming and grabbing onto the door and door frame, all the while screaming. So I just put him in the floorboard and close the door and get in the front seat, Mike was still in the store with Rhys so I figured I would just sit there and try to gather myself from almost emotional breakdown. Rhylee then gets inbetween the carseats and is laughing like thing happened and all happy go lucky. At this point I am like what is wrong with my son! HE has NEVER acted like that NEver Never.
Sunday, we go to Walmart and the same thing happens that happened at the movie store, screaming in the car, kicking etc. We get home I get him out of the car and its dark he takes off running across our front yard screaming, I know for sure the neighbors are thinking Im doing something horrible to my child. I finally get him inside and he is chasing me around the house hitting me with his baby doll and screaming and crying. I try to hold him in his rocker and rock him and calm him down but that makes him even more made, on top of that all 3 days he took the medicine he was up from 1am-530am every night.
SO this morning I did not give him any! I called his dr. and before I could even ask the nurse my full question she said that some kids have severe side effects with prednisone and they go crazy while on, then she proceeds to tell me that even when she took it she was a psycho and if a judge let someone off for murder and they were taking it she could understand completely. So come to find out this steriod makes my son crazy! Seriously he had so much strength he was so angry and mad and he screamed like a demon, Im not saying anything about my child bc he is normally very sweet, but this scared me so bad.
Im just glad it was the medicine and not something wrong with my baby, but that is insane that dr's still prescribe that knowing it can have those effects, and his dr. wanted me to continue the last few doses, but I disagree and he will not be taking the rest.

Needless to say, No prednisone in my house again! Scary Stuff!

I just looked this up on the pharmacy website..um ya no more prednisone for my kids!
